The U.S. Embassy and Consular posts in India accept application for issuance of U.S. Passports for adults and minors. The appointment for submitting the application in person is by prior confirmed appointment.

Passport renewal applications can also be submitted through mail if all the following criteria are met. The previous U.S. passport is:

  • Undamaged (other than normal wear and tear);

  • Never reported as lost or stolen;

  • Issued within the last 15 years;

  • Issued with a 10-year validity; and

  • Issued in your current name or you have changed your name and can submit legal documentation to prove this change.

Consular Registration of Birth Abroad (CRBA)

A U.S. Citizen or national can apply for his / her child's Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) if the child was born in a foreign country.

Subject to fulfilment of all conditions, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) shows that the child is a U.S. citizen at birth, but the application must be made before the child turns 18 years of age. The child becomes eligible to receive a U.S. passport if the parent registered the birth at a U.S. embassy or consulate
